I recently got tested and the nurse told me that loss of smell is now one of the top 3 symptoms people are having so yeah, this one's close to being a dead giveaway.

Seems to vary.

My friend who had it in March can't smell or taste anything. Another friend says he can smell & taste but nowhere near as good as before.

It's not a guarantee that you'll lose your sense of smell or taste, but from what I've heard from people who have, the change is rather profound and sudden.

My brother-in-law burnt popcorn pretty badly and couldnt smell it at all.

He said he didnt really seem to have a lack of taste though.

It seems like its a case by case situation where some aspects are worse then others for different people. Dont take any one indicator has the definitive situation.
