Once at my last job, I had a customer who literally could not even fathom how email worked. It was one of the strangest, most surreal experiences I've ever had. I had to keep explaining to her that it was NOTHING like a fax machine, and that there was nothing physical involved with the process. (This was last year, mind you)

I used to feel snarky about this kind of thing but then I noticed the senior techs at work explaining server architecture to me in exactly the same tone as I use to explain to my mother why copypasting chainmails on facebook doesn't protect her from "the algorithm"

I'm sure they think, "how does a grown man not understand what a DMZ is"
