I loved how dark it was. I played it very late so it was way past my "edgy = cool" phase, I legit loved how dark it was. The 2018 one seemed like they forgot that the cars are very much tied to the driver and I don't get how they lost that. Yes, different drivers have been in one car but the car always fit who they were.

Yeah I couldnt play the reboot because it had no personality, just cars with interchangeable, faceless drivers.

Also the thing I like about older Twisted Metals that I didnt like about the reboot is that the levels were designed so you are able to get away from the action, get your bearings, collect some weapons and get back in the fray, like there were brief moments of calm so you could think about what you were gonna do next.

The reboot felt so insanely busy and chaotic that I couldnt even breathe. In the older games the enemies fought each other, in the reboot it felt like everyone was fighting YOU and chasing you constantly.

Unpopular opinion but I enjoyed Twisted Metal 2 more then black, and would be interested in seeing a sequel to that, with the brighter colors, and levels around the world with famous landmarks to destroy

Black had all those awesome story cutscenes. That's the kind of thing that's missing from games today. There isn't enough storytelling. Somehow a game like Twisted Metal Black has more identifiable and relatable characters than MGSV

Side note: One thing that blows my mind is that the very first Twisted Metal, in 1995, for PS1, is the only game in the series where the charred corpse of cars youve killed remain in the spot where they died for the duration of the match.

In all other games the cars explode and disappear, even Twisted Metal 2012 nearly 20 years later on PS3.
