And on the other hand, some Quidditch games end in a just a few minutes (or in one case, seconds) depending on how fast the Snitch is caught

Like I said, it's supposed to be absurd

Which is just terrible. When winning is all that matters there is no reason to catch it is your team is too far behind. During like a round robin stage where points differential can be important, then doing so would have value, but it is just dumb in a single elimination format.

If it's one sided you might as well try to save everyone's time and end it asap.

And tbh I don't think the seeker's are going to be focused on everything around them if they're trying to devote all their attention to finding the little fella anyway.

I'm guessing that if your team is behind by more than 150 points the strategy would be to prevent the other Seeker from catching the snitch by roughing them up somehow or pretending to be chasing it yourself to deceive them into following you.

Krum was just trying to avoid his team being massively embarrassed. I think the implication is that the Bulgarian team was mostly just carried by him. When one team scores seventeen times in fifteen minutes, you're probably not going to be winning.

Quidditch originally used a tiny bird called a Golden Snidget. It was extremely fast and could change direction pretty much instantly. It didn't have any bias because it was just a bird that was scared as fuck of what was going on. It was so fragile that it would be crushed when a Seeker grabbed it, so they ended up endangered.

Presumably, the Snitch just magically reproduces the mindset of the Snidget.

Apparently it was deliberately made to be illogical. She created it after having an argument with her boyfriend and felt the rules would frustrate men.

If the other team's seeker spots it, you're not going to have much choice. In games that are part of leagues (such as the ones played at Hogwarts), it's better to lose catching the snitch closing the score gap than it is to let the other team catch it and have their score skyrocket (the former puts you in a better position to still win the league overall).

when the snitch did appear its just a matter of catching it straight away, unless your team sucks enough that they are losing by too many points in which you may as well join another team

The rules are nonsense, yes. And I think people pointing out the world cup game where krum caught the snitch and still lost are missing the point a little. I mean Ireland still had to be like 15x better than Bulgaria just to edge in a marginal victory.

Like imagine if in basketball you got 100 points for some basically random event, like tapping a streaker on the shoulder.

So I just assumed it was supposed to be quirky and odd like everything in Harry Potter, and also a chance for harry to look heroic.
