I'm kind of bummed to hear that it has a story. I thought it would just be a cool zombie-filled sandbox where I could go out to gather things to make myself and my base more formidable whenever I feel daring enough, sort of like Subnautica or Minecraft.

How often does the story slow down the gameplay loop?

It's a typical story-based open world AAA game. There are story missions and optional side-missions and activities you can do. It's nothing like Subnautica or Minecraft.

Nope.

It's way better on Nightmare tho. Starts off as a Survival Horror and slowly morphs into a buff spamming action game.

Nice. I think any game with horror elements loses a lot of it's entertainment when it's too easy. There's nothing intense about knowing you can kill everything in any room with little effort.

Don't use the DLC bow even tho it's amazing, makes it way too easy even on Nightmare.

Get Dropkick ASAP, TC. One of the most fun skills in any game, kicking zombies off roofs doesn't get old.

So first of all, it has no base building, horde defense or migrating zombies. You're thinking of a game like State of Decay 2 for that.

Dying Light is very much an action game on rails with a story you've eventually got to stay on top of.

Depends what kind of game you want. Though most games are better with friends. I think games like Dying Light are better alone in the dark. 3 people running around you and constantly talking, completely destroys the elements I prefer, the atmosphere is definitely completely destroyed. Though I could definitely see the fun in it as well. Strictly preference.

Fun game. I don't think you get guns until about LV12 or something, and that's when the game really feels more enjoyable. Until then, you're bashing zombies with flimsy, jury-rigged clubs with low durability and stuff. Oh, and if you want an easier time, get the perk that lets you kill zombies by stomping their heads. It's great when they climb up things, since they give you a free stomp opportunity (usually).
