I thought about getting a 2 TB nvme SSD but the Samsung high-performance models are ridiculously expensive, so I decided to go lower capacity but max performance, and store the games I'm currently playing most often on it, while other games go on the 4 TB external drive.

To my surprise, though, aside from loading times basically everything runs the same either way.

Are NVME drives faster than SSDs?

I think it's more about size when it comes to laptops

That sounds about right for Half-Life 2

You can only do smuch at 1080p, even @ 240 Hz, and a lot of that is determined by the complexity and action on-screen.

Should just keep pushing the frame rate until the GPU is 100% imo

HL2 came out in Nov 2004. The game is almost 16 years old.

You're running into Game System Rendering Engine limits. HL2 isn't complex enough to push the modern GPU to that limit.

That's why Ultra-wide would give you more benefits along with higher refresh rates.

Imagine gaming at 21:9 instead of 16:9 aspect ratio with higher VRR (Variable Refresh Rates)

Imagine gaming at 24:9 instead of 16:9 aspect ratio with higher VRR (Variable Refresh Rates)

That's the future of gaming.

The Ultra-wide "Aspect Ratio" is closer to your natural human eyes FoV (Field of View)

24:9 is closer to that "Aspect Ratio" then either 21:9, or 16:9.
