This is both blatantly untrue and something that varies from state to state, and grade to grade. Also doesn't take into account honors and electives.

There really shouldn't shouldn't be required reading, at any level beyond "this specific class".

I think it's important to be constantly examining and revising the canon, but no, hard disagree.

I was always irritated that Grapes of Wrath was required reading over Of Mice and Men.

Fucking slow-ass "watch a turtle cross a street" book.

Well, "school building" or "school district" levels would be acceptable, I guess.

I think "required reading" is a dumb as shit concept that needs to be done away with. Let people read what they want.

A literature class is kinda dependent on everyone in the class reading the same literature, though.

If we're going that route, the FF9 Brady Guide should be mandatory reading for teaching children the valuable lesson of buyer's remorse.

Whatever they do, many schools need to change up their required reading lists because some of those books were just so boring. I had many bad and failing grades because of some of those books. Of course, when the book was actually good, I did great. Are these even a good way to judge someone's grasp on proper English anyway?

It was? Along with 1984, Grapes of Wrath, Frankenstein, Feirnheit 451, The Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, Animal Farm, Paradise Lost, The Great Gatsby all of shakespear, all of Twain, All of Poe, Of Mice and Me, Flowers for Algernon, Beowulf, Le Mort De Aurther, most of HG Wells, Tarzan, and Canterberry Tales...for some Britsh Lit and American Lit were the same class in the same year, just broken up in to two semesters each.....pretty much only did book reports.

...oh A Raisin in the Sun, Moby Dick, and The Stand...had to read them too.

I had to read 12 angry jurors in it, which seems weird not really anything to do with business.
