I was pretty disappointed, they assume you have a lot of familiarity with the historical figures going in, and the songs weren't as catchy as I expected. The love story between Hamilton and his future wife was confusing and it seemed like a lot of it was to give the females something to do.

What did you need a PhD in history in order to follow? They explain a majority of what happens.

The history is pretty basic high school level stuff though obviously a lot of people (tc) dont pay attention in high school history or civics.

You don't need a history PhD, just a high IQ

Not even "high." It's pretty easy to follow along. And they tell you who all the important people are anyway, so it's really a matter of paying attention.

This is the only reason that makes sense to me. In the US, they teach the revolutionary war from grade school through high school. Even then, you only need very basic facts. The US won the war. George Washington led the army. King George was the King of England. If you didn't know those things, they were pretty easy to infer by how they were presented. I watched it with a person who grew up in Ecuador and she knew more about it than I did.

Don't project whatever problems you have onto everyone else. If you have a basic US education (and even without that for most cases), you can follow what happens. Did they talk too fast? Maybe try closed captions.

I haven't taken a US history class (or thought about history much at all) since sophomore year of high school. That was 2006. I could follow along just fine. I'd recommend using the closed captions and paying attention if you ever decide to give it another try. Everything you need to know is there.
