I read that certain breeds of dog, while protecting its owner specifically, would be able to fend off or possibly kill a wolf.

Rott, Pitt, German Shepard, Mastiff and other big ass dogs.

Thoughts?

No. A wolf is smarter and has withstood the vigors of the wild. I wouldn't bet against one vs. a dog even if the dog was slightly bigger.

It is not that crazy considering that wolves are hunters. That means they know they must stay fit and uninjured in order to keep being able to hunt and survive.

they know they may be able to defeat a big, aggressive dog, but they also know they might get injured in the process, so they would rather just run away.

AN average size male wolf is well shy of 100lbs. An average male bully kutta is over 200lbs.

A bully kutta would destroy a wolf.

Pitbulls arent especially big. An average wolf is the size of a gigantic pit bull and as big as any of the breeds you mentioned besides mastiffs.

I agree. I posted strong dogs with large bite force.

There are some incredibly massive breeds. Mastiff is one though.

Lol no.

a 150 lbs pro boxer would destroy a 200 lbs Karen or a 210 lbs CEman.

its about aggression and sheer physicality.

maybe it would win, I dont know, it it would be a heck of a match

Any reason why you now believe the wolf could kill the bigger cat, the cheetah?

It would easily win. We arent talking a fat couch potato against an elite athlete. Were talking two animals one of which is nearly three times the size of the other and has a 6 foot vertical leap.

I get what youre saying but that comparison doesnt apply here at all.

They fight them against bears in afghanistan. Not in a fair fight but regardless a bully kutta is an absolute beast of a dog. Were not talking a really fat lab here or something.

Because the cheetah is a doglike cat. A cat with a traditional cat blueprint like the jaguarundi, can beat a wolf, unless it is much smaller. The cheetah is overspecialized, some might say for the sprint. If you look at their bodies, they are very slender cats. Cheetahs also do not have claws that can sheathe. It gets blunt over time, negating one of the huge advantages that other cats have over dogs - their razor sharp claws.

Fun fact: Cheetahs used to be endemic to North America. They would hunt pronghorns, which explains why those fuckers are so much faster than they need to be to outrun any of their modern predators.

I don't know if they are at the top. For the most part Lions usually are fairly docile. There are a couple species of cat that are aggressive, but they will usually stay to themselves. Same with wolves for the most part. Hippos on the other hand, they are nuts. Short Temper, can run at burst speeds of 30 miles an hour, are incredible swimmers and their jaws have over 1500 pounds of bite strength, only 4th to 2 species of Crocodile and 1 species of Alligator.

Imagine getting charged by a small golf cart that weighs nearly 4000 pounds.

It means that 90 percent of the time they aren't hunting. They are lazing around under a tree. Yeah, they eat meat, and can be aggressive, but most of the time they actually are quite tame, some even enjoy being around humans.

I mean, if you want to bring up actual predators then I bring up the Dragonfly who has a 99 percent chance of catching its prey and eats hundreds of flies and mosquitos a day. Not to mention that their brain allows them to predict where their prey is going to be, before the prey even knows itself.

The only true carnivorous bear is the polar bear. And their predatory success is mainly lie next to a hole in the ice, then use their immense strength to kill a seal as it pops up to breathe.

Brown and black bears can survive on vegetation.

A single Amur tiger is untouchable and has been known to cause a near total vacancy in the wolf population where they occur.

That tiger sounds like a raid boss

This is a disingenuous comparison considering the envirement polar bears are forced to work in, and the utter lack of any land based mammals they can hunt that arent either much faster them, can swim, or are bigger and stronger.

Also they flcan utilize stealth when the opportune arises but those scenarios are few and far inbetween.

The expression it aint the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog isnt without merit.

Its why a ten lb dog can tree a cougar. Or why a house cat can chase off a black bear. Etc.

Because you'll probably kill him but he's taking four or five of you with him, and one of them might be you.

Exactly.

Intimidation is a gigantic factor in any fight especially amongst animals where theres no expectation of mercy.

Its evolution p much. This thing will either kill me or injure me so badly i die eventually anyways takes precedence over if we attack as a mob we can win this thing.

animals dont use logic very well either. A tiny and relatively harmless animal can dominate a far more deadly one just based off agression.

Same with little hunting dogs.

I worked with a tree faller one summer who was a big time hunter and he swore up and down the best dog he ever had for treeing a cougar was an 8lb terrier.

Obviously if the cougar thought for a split second hed just maul that little dog in a heartbeat. Lol.
