i look everyday with the cases going up, it's fucking coming to get us in this town (we're very close to washington and portland). between a rock and a hard place with infections.

I think you have to use a bit of each. Deaths are a lagging indicator. Hospitals in America are expensive as hell so you really don't want to get sick in the first place and end up there even if you are low risk of death.

I guess if I have to choose one it would be deaths. America never really slowed the new cases down, so I tend not to look into that one too much but hospital ICU capacity is an important one for sure.
