When you manager says they have to do "important paperwork" and you find them playing solitaire on the computer.

If it was at least Doom id's be okay, but Solitaire? milk the clock right woman.

If you aren't happy at all. If your work environment is toxic or if you just want something different.

All valid reasons. I never get attached to a job that I'm not passionate about. What's the point?

When you're not getting paid enough.

When you're tired of it and want to do something different.

When the environment is so toxic that it's taking a toll on you mentally.

If you are constantly thinking about quitting. Then you are clearly not happy there. Just do it and find something else.

Yes. I've also had people leave years-long projects where I over-stepped the line causing a split in the partnership.

It happens. Failure is part of the dance.

You have a few different options for it:

  1. You no longer have anything to gain from the job. You've made or polished the skills that you've used to work there, and they have nothing more to offer you in terms of learning. At this point it's time to look for more.
  2. You cannot stand management or your coworkers. If you aren't having a good time, socially, your work will suffer and you will be miserable. Find a new place and go.
  3. It's been 2+ years and you can get a significant income boost by going to a new company.
Just remember, have a job lined up and accepted before leaving your current job.

For me it was when I dreaded going into the office. Everyone was great but the owner was an absolute fuck head prick. He would make office women cry and just lose his shit. Remember, at a workplace you're spending more time with those people than your family, friends, relationships, etc. Don't stay somewhere toxic.

At least in America its WAY faster to climb the pay scale ladder by jumping ship to a new company rather than staying with one company long term. Its basically encouraged to move around as much as possible to get more money. You do not get rewarded monetarily for sticking around, you just dont.

Today was the last day of a 'newish' job.
It didn't pay too much.
And there were certain things that, just were not okay...Healthwise. The place was an OSA nightmare.
But on the most basic level, the Janky schedule pushed me out.

Sleep is health. Whatever hours you may have it is at least something, if they are regular.
Never accept a janky schedule.

I've recently just quit my job (restaurant industry) after 3 years of working. Here's why I quit which some here already mentioned...

-No income growth. Always minimum wage. This goes for all positions except manager. I was a dishwasher, food prep, and a line cook.

-No career growth. It's very hard to advance to manager and honestly, it isn't very rewarding unless you have the passion to cook. That's it. Once you're manager, it's you life. You work up to 6 days a week, open-close, and weekends. Barely no breaks, no days off, etc.

-Literally the same tasks daily and feels like you have no future. Open up restaurant, setting up equipment, prepping food, making food, no break, getting ready for 100 customers to walk in, close the restaurant, cleaning up the kitchen for 1- 2 hours, and repeat.

-You work with ALL KINDS of people. This isn't a typical office job where everybody has to act mature. Some people are childish, always bitchy, cranky, druggies, etc.

-Dealing with shitty coworkers who will always takes break every hour just to vape and smoke.

-Depends on how your boss is, but my 1st restaurant boss was an ass to deal with. Always yelling at you and threatening to write a report on you. Basically a wanna be chef Ramsey.

When there's a consistent trend of the company piling more work on the staff, imposing stricter rules, cutting employee perks, etc. while the staff gets little to nothing in return.

Bonus points if they begin laying off tenured employees who remember "how good things used to be". Can't have them undermining the new direction, right?

I relate to this alot. Luckily my shift managers are pretty helpful, will jump in when people just fucking disappear.

Or worse yet, when you don't even want that promotion in the first place.

I had a job where I was arguably the best at what I did, but near the end, on certain days the supervisor was a child who....as it turns out, it would have been illegal for him to even in the building for 85% of the time I worked there. He came to me with questions.
