Do you generally trust teens to cook your fast food?

Little Caesars in Ohio fired 2 teen employees after they arranged pepperoni slices into customers pizza over an elaborate PRANK!!

The highly popular chain said it was deeply disappointed by the actions of the staff who were both under 18 and who worked at the Brook Park store

Jason Laska said he went to pick up the only pre-made pepperoni pizza left on Saturday night and saw this when he opened it..

It was one of the 2 pies that were pre-cooked and ready to collect by walk in customers who did not need to order ahead of time

When he got home, his wife Misty opened up to discovery the highly offensive symbol

The 2 were playing a prank and did not mean for it to be given to a customer

Mrs Laska shared the picture on twitter and said "So my husband stopped by Little Caesars for a quick bite, husband brings this home. Im truly disappointed. This is truly saddening and disturbing and not funny at all. These aren't funny jokes and shouldn't be made period. Who would do this and why would they think it's a joke to play with signs and symbols like that in a time like today? These are the kinds of things that are continuing to fuel the hate and the confusion that exists in the country and in the world"

Little Caesers has a zero tolerance for racism and discrimination and immediately terminated the kids.

The store owner has reached out to the Laska's..

Do you generally trust teenagers to cook your fast food?

No, it's like saying Dragon Ball is an anime not a cartoon

While anime and cartoons are the same thing most people would call it anime to distinguish is from western cartoons

Just like people would say manji to distinguish it from being a nazi symbol

Also since it's facing left it would be a sauwastika anyway (and these kids goofed if they were going for the nazi symbol)

if somebody calls Dragon Ball a cartoon and you correct them by saying "It's an anime and not a cartoon", you're wrong at least technically and likely in spirit of the point they're trying to make*. If a parent tells their kid to stop watching cartoons all day, correcting them that it's akshually anime is pedantic and misses the point. I'm relatively sure pepper2012 wasn't calling Nintendo Nazis, so correcting him that it's akshually a manji is pedantic and misses the point. And in general, saying a swastika isn't a swastika, it's a manji, is saying that instead of it being a holy symbol of peace and enlightenment, it's akshually a holy symbol of peace and enlightenment. Context mattered to Nintendo in using the icon as something other than Nazi symbology, and the same context, that it isn't Nazism, matters when somebody calls the symbol by the name that's widely-used in English

oh i see. guess the hindus are shit out of luck then, because it's their word that the West grabbed for their general name of the symbol

this doesn't even apply to this scenario, since there is no non-context-derived difference between a manji and a swastika, whichever direction they're facing. the symbol is the same either way. my dog example is more pertinent--same animal, different names based on locality--and more generous, by specifying the breed and thus identifying a physical difference, to your case than it needs to be

Well yeah but the word cartoon isn't associated with mass genocide so it's fine to use them interchangeably. The word swastika in English is so closely linked with Nazis that using it to refer to something not related to Nazis is best avoided. It's kind of like how "negro" just means black but obviously using it to refer to a person is much worse than using black because of the historical context. So while saying "it's not a swastika" is technically incorrect, calling it a swastika is intentionally inviting misunderstanding that could be avoided by using another word.

Yeah, it does suck for the Hindus. What's your point? If they came up with a new word I would be happy to use it for their version of the symbol. As in there's nothing you can really do to avoid calling it that

My point was about avoiding misunderstanding. If you like anime and when you meet someone say "I like cartoons", no one is going to think you're talking about anime, even if it's not wrong. If the person then asked "oh what cartoons do you like" and you replied with "DBZ, Bleach, Naruto" the person would be like "oh you like anime". Sure, it's not a big deal in that case but when you mix in Nazis being more clear is kind of more important.

Fuck letting the Nazis erase thousands of years of historical use for two decades of crime. They should not own all context of a word that's not even from their language, and in acting like the word "swastika" refers to Nazis by default is, in a way, letting their ideology win from the grave.

is still an emoji despite the symbol getting coopted by white supremacists. Congress still has a fasces despite the only reason most people have heard of it is from "fascism". Don't let them rewrite history. These dipshit kids putting a swastika on a pizza? Yeah, they're being edge lords. pepper pointing out there's a swastika in Zelda? He's probably just being a little stupid, so we condescendingly pretend he had an interesting point to make and move on with our lives, not "correct" him that it's not a swastika and make the problem worse.

And "what's my point" in pointing out "swastika" is a Hindu term when you said to use the local name to avoid Nazi association? Really? Fuck off. If Zelda was made in India SHINE wouldn't be able to try to avoid association by calling it a different name. He might have instead pointed out that it existed and had holy meaning before the Nazis and that it appearing in the game has nothing to do with them... which he could've and should've done in this case too. Call it a "Nazi Swastika" if context isn't clear that that that's the type being talked about. Don't make the Hindus made up a new word. It's not their fault we stole it.

As for the analogy debate, again, context matters. If you're watching SpongeBob and ask your friend what his favorite cartoons are and he rattles off shounen, he's missing the context. If you're watching Jojo and you ask the same and you get the same, it's appropriate in context. If you're showing an image from a Japanese game from developers who are not fascist shitheads or edgelords, the context probably isn't "This game was made by Nazis", so saying it isn't a swastika, it'd a manji is, again, still missing the context. If you're in a class about Operation Barbarossa and the professor draws a swastika on the board, you're missing the context of you think it's about the Navajos. If you're in a discussion about authoritarian ideology and somebody draws a swastika on their arm, you'd be right in calling them a douchebag, even if they try to "well ackshually" its other historical considerations.

Context matters.

I agree with that in principle. It would be great if we could get millions of people to disassociate the word swastika with Nazis but that seems pretty much impossible.

I see where you're coming from, but I mean considering the theme of the topic it was pretty obvious that pepper was taking a shot at Nintendo. Also, the page he posted literally calls it a manji (or the name of the level is manji), so... SHINE is not wrong in saying that

It would be hard to call it by another name in regards to Hinduism because... there's no other word to call it. That doesn't mean other cultures that do have another word for it shouldn't be able to use them. I feel bad for them but just because it's unavoidable in one context doesn't mean it should be in all other contexts too.

Context does matter, yes. The context here is some dumb kids put a Nazi symbol on a pizza, and pepper pointed out that Nintendo did the same thing. Thanks to the opening post, people's minds are already on the "Nazi swastika" so in context, it does make sense to be like that "actually this isn't the same thing"

But anyway, this is way too much discussion for a Full Throttle topic
