It was always extremely low in UT so I wonder if now we're just getting our spike late or if it's because of businesses reopening

Cause no one ever really wore masks here to begin with

The initial spike was centered in major cities though, which is exactly where you would expect outbreaks to start if there is next to no national directives given early on. The real difference here is these red states saw what happened, ignored it and now their cases are on the upswing.

gotta say, if you look at the paper trail, NYC....kind of ignored it at first.

I distinctly recall a certain mayor whose name rhymes with bleblahsio tweeting out that everyone should go see a movie, get out, and not worry about this little virus.

This weird centrist take you have completely ignores the fact that not much was known about the virus in early March compared to now. Are you really going to compare De Blasio's fuck up (and yes he did fuck up) to Abbott's current fuck up?

Pretty much. Cities like New York are national and global hubs of travel, buisness and tourism. If there is an outbreak in another country it's like 99% chance its gonna hit/hit hard in those places first.

No, why would I compare two different situations? My point is that it's stupid to play this partisan game when no one did it right

of course this assumes you want to be able to hold the 'leaders' that failed accountable, elect them out of office, get someone in who is an actual leader, and make the changes required for a better life and society for all.

ofc with us just yelling about the other side, we'll never do that because how can we hold our own leaders accountable for what they did a few months ago, if, right now, someone on the other side is doing something worse?

Like if I'm in TX, I'm voting Abbott out
If I'm in NYC, I'm voting Cuomo and de blasio out
I'm in CA so I'll try to vote Newsom out. He was great and early in the beginning, but his handling since has been anything other than "leader-like"

Ignoring the difference between making a dumbass move before people knew what they know now versus someone having the information and facts and making the exact same error is an extreme lack of applying logic and intelligence. To see someone fuck up(DeBlasio) and then do the same thing on a larger scale is insanely stupid and much worse. Doesn't make the earlier fuck up look any better. It still ages just as shitty. But the old fuck up makes the new fuck up look worse by comparison.

De Blasio should definitely be booted. I wouldn't say the same about Cuomo over COVID responses, but in general he has been less than good, which is good enough to get the boot from me. Abbot has sucked, Ducey sucks, Newsom sucks, Inslee sucks, Kemp sucks, DeSantis sucks. The list goes on. Get them the fuck out. But we know largely that ain't happening.

The fact that it took until the 18th for Newsom to make mask wearing a rule(without stricter guidelines mind you) is bonkers to me. Shitmer waited just as late, but at least made it mandatory everywhere and every business.

This is a fucked up situation all around.

I get what you're saying

I think the difference is I don't really care if I can say "Yeah but this OTHER fuckup is WAY WORSE."

because at the end of the day, sounds like we both want all the incompetence gone. Only thing being able to say the sentence above does is...i dunno...if one person rapes and another person rapes and murders (don't mean to use such an extreme analogy but time is short right now for me and it was the first thing that came to mind), they both need to go. Doesn't really matter in the end which one was worse if you're like me and think it should be jail for life for either of those.
