I can't believe I slept on this game for so long. It's hella fun. It's basically like a prototype Ocarina of Time with platforming and isn't as polished, but it still has a lot of charm to it.

-4 characters that you can change on the fly all with different abilities

-A bunch of dungeons scattered around an overworld that you have to explore.

-there's a female ninja you play as that has bigger boobs relative to everyone else in the game, so that automatically makes her a titty ninja by law >_>

-Goemon LITERALLY turns into a super saiyan as one of his powers you unlock
https://operationrainfall.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/super-saiyan.png

-Plenty of funny dialogue

-You LITERALLY summon a mech with a corny sentai theme song and have first-person epic mech battles with other mechs

-In the credits, Ebisumaru takes a pic of a lady and then uses shrink magic on himself to look up her dress >______>
https://youtu.be/67xmY-Ksu48?t=457

My only complaints is that the overworld can get kinda confusing at times to navigate and you get WAAAAY too much health easily, but otherwise the game is pretty great. Neon-approved >_>

Unapologetically Japanese. All Japanese legends are real. You have references to shonen too.

Licensing issues.

They are great games, but Working Designs thought they had the ok to make a Mystical ninja game but didnt for some reason and it destroyed them.

They were a great company imo.

Awesome fucking soundtrack.

To this day it's one of the few games I've ever seen using dynamic scoring so well. Like, the music in the dungeons will change and get fuller/cooler as you get further and further.

https://youtu.be/DBrJgGIfOO0

https://youtu.be/k9EWR5Wo7WQ

https://youtu.be/BCCfPS8A8dA

All three of those are the same dungeon, but they just keep adding layers to it. Listen to that shit. It's AWESOME.

Is Goemon's Great Adventure also good? I know it's a sidescroller and nothing like Mystical Ninja 64

I remember not liking it at the time because it's just so different. It plays and controls well enough, but it just wasn't what I was expecting because it's strictly a side-scrolling action game with even less RPG/adventure aspects than MN64.

I'd say give it a shot, but go in with different expectations.

Similar to what other users are saying, it's a fun, great game in its own right. But it's completely different, and more faithful to the original Super Nintendo games.

Also, it is incredibly challenging, so keep that in mind. But it is fairly unique in that it's a side-scroller with adventure/RPG elements.

I'm disappointed it took you this long to play it. It's easily the best 3D 64 platformer. It has comedy, story, etc....play the sequel. I really enjoyed it while it is a 2D platformer you still get robot boss fights which I enjoyed much more than the first and the music for it is amazing as well. Please play the 2nd one my only problem with it is that you can't replay the castle levels which are the ones that have boss fights.

While you're at it play Flying Dragon but only the SD mode. It's the best fighting game on the 64 as well. Just play the SD mode "chibi" the adult character version of it is terrible like a poor man's virtual fighter. The kids part is great you lvl up items you equip that give you strength, speed, etc...you even learn special moves as you play as well. It doesn't have much modes but it's still great.

The on foot stuff actually controls really well. That, Mario 64, and Ocarina of Time all control really good with a touchpad imo

The Impact sections are a little dicey but still pretty doable. I just used savestates to offset the punishment from the jank

Hypothetically of course >_>

Interesting, hypothetical. I always assumed that 3D games controlled horribly on phones. Also, that game had some bombing music, especially Kai Highway, Zazen Town, Yamato, and the Bamboo Forest.

Yeah, something about moving your thumb around the virtual joystick is surprisingly easy to control once you get used to it. I 100%'d both Mario 64 and OoT with that and I had virtually no problems doing it >_>
