There were a couple of stories I remember reading where people were fearmongering over 4G

There are still crackpots that stress over the wifi in your home. It's just people that dont understand the difference between ionizing and non ionizing radiation

New crackhead theory: LTE exposure caused people to be dumber and believe in crazy crackpot conspiracy theories.

It's a vicious cycle man!

By 7G the creators themselves will fear their creation.

Yeah.
I used to listen to Coast to Coast AM a ton in college and grad school. I'm a night person by default and college let me keep weird hours. This period of time is like 2003 through 2010 or so. People on that show talked about how electric lines and cellphone towers caused cancer and basically every disease you can imagine. Same show taught me about vaxxers back in 2004.

I listened because of how absurd it was but sometimes enjoyed the creepy ghost or alien stories. Never believed them, but it was interesting to learn about weird beliefs.

I stopped listening a decade ago because the hackery that was once relegated to late night weirdos started bleeding into the mainstream. Horrifying really.

And to your points - people DID talk about this sort of thing in 3g. It was just relegated to kooks and crazies, unlike now. Social media makes spreading lies and extremist and poorly thought out opinions so easy. Mix in dummy accounts and you've got a dumpster fire of epic proprotion loose in society.

Like, I remember somebody showing me Alex Jones in 2003. He was on a shoutcast Winamp channel. If you would have told me then the influence he has now, I would have called you insane.

because there's way more 5G infrastructure. 4G just look like sporadic cell phone towers, you might not even have one in your neighborhood; with 5G you'd see several put up in your neighborhood because they've got shit range.

Is that really it? Because it's more visible?

sure. keep in mind conspiracy theories are often formed by morons who see something, dont understand what they're looking at, and form an opinion instead of researching it; or they listen to someone else who's already done their thinking for them and reached that conclusion...

My older brother used to a hardcore conspiracy theorist. He wasn't exactly stupid, but he was always desperate to be exceptional/special and it made him delusional. He's always looking for "secret knowledge" and he's a big reason I took the 9/11 conspiracy seriously in my early teens smh

A big problem is just taking the word of literal crazy people for honest correct statements.

All it takes is 1 liar who makes up an event because "We all know this really happens anyways", or the money hungry authors who make up stories to sell their books.

Conspiracy theorists always say "Follow the money!"

Guess who makes money from this? Coast to Coast radio show owners/etc and other conspiracy theorist authors make money from making things up.

Most people don't understand how technology works and believes any BS passed around.

Why else would crap like Gwyneth Paltrow's "Goop" company continued to allow to operate and sell complete and utter trash products to the public via deliberate deception.

They are a company of "Pseudo Science" BS and idiots buy their crap all the time.

And because she's a celeb, she's backing it and making bank.

Same with the idiots who thought "Solar Roadways" was a good idea.

Or charlatons who came up with the "Water Seer".

So many people who are scientifically and technologically illiterate.
