Like before you could make particularly realistic faces you just had to stylize them. And when you are stylizing a face it's pretty easy to check off the requisite hottie characteristics because you aren't necessarily focused on them looking real. When you actually start making your characters look realistic you are both fighting against uncanny valley and the fact you are bound to actual realistic imagery. Eastern developers still largely stylize their characters in some sort of pseudo-anime style.
