Millions of people could die if the coronavirus pandemic sees a second wave of infections, a World Health Organization official warned Friday, adding that the deadly outbreak has so far unfolded much like officials at WHO had anticipated.

The comparison is with the Spanish Flu, which behaved exactly like Covid: it went down in the summer and fiercely resumed in September and October, creating 50 million deaths during the second wave, Dr Ranieri Guerra, WHO assistant director-general for strategic initiatives told Italys Rai TV.

Scientist B: Not sure, I would say a 11/10 serious
Scientist C: Hard to say but it's definitely above an 8

if more people are wearing them then the more you are protecting society from you the mask wearer in case you unknowingly have the virus

At this point, I don't know what to feel. Those who purposely go out and get it should be taken to a padded room and left there. Their families, friends, neighbors though.... Not everyone should suffer from the stupidity of others.

As pernicious as the virus is, pretty much everyone is going to get it eventually. The whole point of the mass quarantine over the past couple months is so that would happen slower, due to scarcity of the relevant medical equipment.

If we haven't manufactured a bajillion respirators in the meantime, then we've fucked up.

This is primarily what is expected. However, we need to protect those vulnerable too.

I do compare Covid to a highly infectious flu with no vaccine. For the majority of people - it will be a minor illness. However, for those vulnerable, it could be fatal.

Imagine if we did not have a flu vaccine and had a flu as infectious as Covid - it would be just as fatal - and have similar 'target' demographics that would be vulnerable.
