I know had the idea before for a rolling tarp which would sit at the top of a lawn chair and roll down whenever rain was detected or forecasted. I was thinking about simplifying the design a bit. Have a square solid tarp which folds out into a long seat length rectangle with a small weighted down rectangle towards the top. The top would sit over the head of the chair keeping it in place. The incline of the chair would provide a natural angle which would sent rain downward. When not in use, the heavy top rectangle section of the tarp would clip the rest of the tarp together into a simple square. Attach it to the back of the chair when sitting enjoying it.
A much easier way to keep patio furniture dry than encapsulating tarps.

Seems like it would be simpler to just make waterproof outdoor furniture.
