I think it's premature to celebrate our independence from another nation when so many oppressed and marginalized people in our own nation haven't gained independence and freedom from their oppressors.

Seems wrong to celebrate freedom when my neighbors don't enjoy those same freedoms. Like lighting fireworks and saying "I'm free, but you're not". What a heartless beast I would be to celebrate the 4th of July.

There is systemic racism and oppression in this country, and black people / people of color objectively have less freedom than white people in this country.
