When I got my 61" 1080p 8 years ago we spent $800, which was a good deal at Brands Mary at the time.
Just casually browsing 4K TVs around that size at just a regular Walmart right now expecting the same, and it's $300 on the high end. What happened to the market? Are TVs without the smart stuff built in just that undesirable nowadays? --- ACAB ... Copied to Clipboard!

High-end 4K TVs of that size are not going for $300 anywhere. At that price point a 60" TV would have to be very low quality.

TVs have always dropped their prices faster than any major electronic good that I can think of. They fly right back up for each new breakthrough (4K, OLED, etc) but they absolutely shed value year over year.

I'm still running a 720p/1080i Samsung from 2007. Cost 500 at the time. For that much now you can get a high end 4K set.

There are still high end TV's at high price points, but most brands now have budget models that still are going to look very good compared to whatever the hell you have currently. At very large sizes, which is great because I will maintain size as the most important factor in getting a new TV.

you really need to be careful buying super cheap TVs
there's 4k TVs you can buy right now that legit have worse image quality than plasma 1080p sets from a decade ago. at that point you're often spending money to either accomplish nothing or, in the worst cases, maybe even downgrade from what you're currently using. since its for gaming you also need to look at the input lag of the tv. there's places like Rtings where you can pretty quickly check detailed reviews for whatever tvs you're interested in. nowdays you can also find reviews on youtube. i really recommend doing so before buying a new TV. ... Things for recommending that RT site. I think this one looks real solid on a budget? $428 at Walmart.
