Its a 14 mile round trip hike with like 5000ft elevation gain. You need a special permit to get to the very top because you have to get up via these ropes built into the rock:

Go for it, but remember to stay away from other people to reduce the spread of Covid infection.

True. Luckily Yosemite is a massive park, with thousands of acres to explore. More scared of bears than people, honestly hhaha

Do it! I just got into hiking and my farthest so far is 10 miles and not nearly as much elevation change. I say if you can do that without killing yourself, you should.

I'll think of a sig later.

I mean, if you think you can do it, have at it. I try not to do too much climbing like that since my knees are in bad shape, I'd hate to get stuck.

I hike professionally so it didn't bother me but yes , half dome imo is the best hike in the park. Everything leading up to it is excellent so even if you can't go to the top it's worth going to the bottom

do the whole thing at a conversational or nose breathing pace. Don't take any long breaks except to grab small snacks once an hour. If you're tired, go slower, but don't stop.

And don't bring a bunch of "well just in case" stuff in your backpack. Bring only absolute necessities.

Yep, all good calls for sure. I usually always pack light. Should I get a headlamp? Thats a long ass hike, and if Im slow...hiking back in the dark would be terrifying. I also have some trekking poles I used in Banff for the ice/snow, but I probably wouldnt need those in Yosemite right?

just start in the morning then, it won't take you 16 hours. It's a regular dirt trail with lots of traffic you don't need poles. You don't need hiking boots.

I don't think you're grasping the concept of *only necessities*

just empty your pack and say "could I physically do this without this item?"

If I did it personally I'd just bring a couple snickers and a liter of water and nothing else, probably
