I had a bunch of these because I had no sense of game mechanics or something. I just mashed attack.

Final boss from Golden Sun: Don't really remember anything else about this boss or this game, just that I got stuck here for weeks. I'm honestly not sure I ever even beat it.

Proud Clod from FFVII: He was so hard I literally restarted my game from the beginning because I couldn't beat or get away from him. Now I go back and fight him again and it's like wtf. Such a braindead easy fight.

Berserker from Legend of Legaia: I guess it was actually pretty hard, to be fair, but this one almost made me quit Legend of Legaia altogether. My nightmare ended when I accidentally discovered the Nighto trick. Thus marking the first and last time I ever discovered a nifty trick like that myself rather than being told about it.

Bowser in old mario games. I used to have trouble in fighting many of the Bowser fights in SMB1. I could beat some of them usually but I would often lose lives.

the final battle in SMB3 was very hard for me as a kid. I never actually beat SMB3 until I was an adult. and now it's childs play for me.

The 2nd Riku fight in Hollow Bastion. That invincible dash attack man, it was always that invincible fucking dash attack.

As a child I very firmly had the mindset of "more damage is better". So I just couldn't process that pummelling away at him with my most damaging attacks was not the best strategy, in favour of using weaker multi-target attacks to kill his little minions before they heal him.

I swear, that manta ray thing was the first boss that came to mind when I read the topic title.

Oh yeah, I forgot Lance in Pokemon Gold. For whatever reason (my brain didn't work very well) my strategy in Pokemon tended to be to use only Pidgeot and its Wing Attack. This proved a bad matchup against Lance. I pretty much just used my other 5 Pokemon as sacrificial pawns to revive and heal Pidgeot so I could use Wing Attack some more. Aerodactyl and that Thunder Dragonite, man. Poor Pidgeot.

You're making me nervous, man. I'm playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time, and I just beat that old hag in Hollow Bastion. I'm going to find out about this one tonight, I imagine.

I got soft locked against Beatrix in FF9 as a kid because I had a team with low health, no healing items, and it was at a point in the game where there was no way to go back and get some. Not to mention the fight before (against the 2 jesters) i stupidly split my attacks up instead of focusing one down (which is also how you win the fight since it ends once 1 of them is down), so i went through the resources that could have prevented me from getting stuck against her.

Never ran into that problem again since that taught me to always keep a stock of healing items just in case.

FFX was the first thing that came to mind, too.

I pretty much gave up at the Bevelle wyrm because i was badly under levelled. To this day, i have no idea why none of my characters had more than 1500 hp.

If it makes you feel better it's a lot less difficult than when I was this game's target audience and I sucked at vidya back then.

It's not gonna be as bad as long as you're playing the HD versions, since you can skip cutscenes now. So you don't have to rewatch one of the longest scenes in the game every time you lose...

Well I just lost like 4 times to dragon old hag, so I'm guessing it's going to be difficult.

IDK how I ever thought the final boss of Contra is hard. Compared to the rest of the game that boss is a fucking gift.

on topic Id say wiegraf from FFT, but thats less sucking and more the game being kinda bullshit. Other than that Id prob say mega man in general cause I had to struggle through a lot of it and now it, and others like it, are far easier for me.

Ahaha, one of my worst gaming moments happened there. I had just switched bedrooms and moved all my stuff over. My mom plugged in my Playstation for me, but she put it in the wrong plug. The one that (along with the lights) was connected to the light switch. I had figured that out immediately but I was too stupid to just change it around, so I was playing with the light on. I had finally (after some blood, sweat, and tears) managed to get near the end of that cave when in comes my mom, frowns at the light, and turns off the light switch. I still remember my howl of dismay as my little 10-year-old heart broke when my Playstation turned off and took all my progress with it.

Pretty much every boss in Xenosaga 1

Margulis cheese is to just put Momo behind Ziggy and have her heal, or grind enough to have Ziggy heal and Momo use her ranged attacks.

The boss in the church when you finally reunite both parties during the Encephalon chapter. Actually using buffs makes it easier to survive and outheal the earthquake attack.

Yeesh, Riku was pretty hard. It took me like 6-7 tries. It's given me a little more appreciation for my meat shields, having to fight without them.

Pretty much every single 'hard' boss from that game. KH1 is easy as shit and anyone who has trouble with it now sucks at video games. >_>

Yaridovich (?) from Super Mario RPG, the one that splits in 2 and does tons of damage....I was 4 and terrible at resource management and didn't understand the importance of grinding, but games like Mega Man that were 100% explore, jump, shoot, dodge etc...I was quite good at, even beat the original Ninja Gaiden I just couldn't RPG at all yet =P
