You've probably seen Western duels in movies or TV shows. Two cowboys standing at opposite sides of the town, seeing who can pull out their gun and shoot the other the fastest.

I always heard that dueling back then was just a gut check since guns were so shitty that they didn't aim well. Once they both shot and probably missed they would go out and drink together lol

The whole idea of the "quick draw" is based around "justifiable self-defense".
If you gun someone down in the middle of town, you are a murderer and would be tried as such. However, if two men with beef want to kill each other, they face off, and one goads the other into drawing.
