The seasons/episodes with a focus on politics with a background of magic and dragons were a lot better than the seasons/episodes about magic and dragons with a background of politics. Also, the last season was perfectly fine and I've seen people complain about the dumbest shit in it.

For both the books and HBO series, I would say the politics, scheming, etc. between the various Houses and characters was definitely more interesting to me than the various fantasy aspects. Without the politics involved, I feel it woulda felt like a generic fantasy series.

That said, the ancient evil trope with the Others was still an enjoyable aspects of the series for me. I felt not enough attention was given to them in the HBO series but I am hoping in Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, attention will shift back to them.

Same. I thought more fans were interested with the interactions between the characters, and the occasional nudity, than dragons and zombies.

It received really legitimate complaints. It was a terrible conclusion/delivery by comparison to other seasons' timelines because there were some pivotal moments that were incredibly rushed. I think fans were mad because they knew what it could have been.

Character development was nonexistent and several things were done just because. Jaime/Brie arc was pooped on in the funniest/saddest most nonsensical/regressive way; the Hound ignoring Cersei and tackling his zombie brother off of a tower because he's an insecure little bitch underneath all of his toughness; battalions > dragons except when dragons > battalions, and many other examples

I thought A Feast of Crows occurred concurrently with A Storm of Swords. Or was it concurrently with A Dance with Dragons? That said, I am glad certain plots were removed/merged such as Lady Stoneheart and the supposed Aegon who has returned. With supposedly two books to go, I feel Martin oughta start wrapping up the existing plots instead of introducing new ones.

well with 800-1000 pages per book he can start, flesh out, and resolves anything that materializes in 4 and 5.

First 3 books are almost their own self contained Trilogy.

I think that's the popular opinion. Olenna talking to Tywin is one of the best scenes in the series and it's just talking.
