ironically comic books were filled with pro america propaganda as it was the height of the cold war.

Those parents of the 50s are pretty much all gone now, they saw the extreme of those things in the 80s and 90s where everything went real extreme. Even today, murder nightly on TV shows.

EC Comics was simultaneously one of the goriest and socially progressive comic companies from that time, and was one of the focal points of them cracking down on them. The Comics Code really hurt them more creatively after that. Hell, The Joker was defunct for like a decade because DC weren't allowed to make him kill or injure people anymore, so they just decided to stop using him.

But yeah, every new media interest with kids gets cracked down on. D&D, Pokemon, etc.
