Splitting the game into too many routes was such a bad choice. Their quality suffered for it, severely, and making the player go through the same first part so many times just to get to new stuff is horrendous

I'm doing the same and having fun. Golden Deer was actually significantly more interesting in White Clouds than I was expecting.

Do you not like the battles? Getting around the school isn't that bad. That wait before picking a tea and the first conversation is a bunch of bull shit, though. Some of the first of the month work stuff can be terrible like that trading quest where you have to talk to 35 people in a row, trading items, to get the last one to finish it.

It's mostly

  • Harvest and plant seeds
  • Do your Arena match for the month
  • Do all the School quests for the month
  • Then plant, have lunch, teach and talk with people until the end of the month
  • Skip all the dialog
Oh, and it helps to just pick with a f'n house and roll with it. Stop building into the hype where people say to get as many students as you can. That's a bunch of crap. Pick a class, go with your class

The monastery stuff is definitely pretty tedious after a while. It was the only part that I disliked about doing subsequent runs.

It's not that doing the quests is bad, but doing the exact same quests for the third time completely unchanged is terrible. All of the interim battles are foregone conclusions and the entire thing is just such a fucking slog. I've done this exact shit 2 times already.

I agree

Game needs like 50 maps that they randomly use for the fights, and the story should have split way sooner in the game. After the first House vs House battle, which would come a bit latter now, it should have split into different branches. Make it seem like none of your units will die because it's just a friendly spar, but then make the first one actually get killed and that's what starts the real House vs House vs House story, which go different ways
