I don't see the appeal of him at all. He also comes across as extremely phony to me.

He is a high ranking Scientologist (up there with Tom Cruise) and his influence and political power helped elevate him.

He's got friends in high places, otherwise that obnoxious alcoholic would be out on the streets where he belongs.

He's a likable guy with powerful friends. Even on his show the Roots are more important than he is. his guests carry the show, his segments involve a celebrity doing something. I'm not saying its not an entertaining show or that i don't like him. I'm sure he's involved with the writing and all that but still...the cast is what makes him, whereas a guy like Conan or Letterman can carry the show and have any guest on. He NEEDS his guest to kind of control things.

Lorne pretty much save Fallon after his meh movie career and made him the host of Late Night. Once Lorne became the producer of the Tonight Show after Leno's departure he picked Fallon for that promotion.

So that would explain why his at home version of his show is so terrible.

Pretty much anyone who launched off from SNL in a performer or writer perspective likely has Lorne Michaels to thank.

So Conan O'Brien, Tina Fey, Mike Myers etc.

Met him once. He's an incredibly nice person, even when I met him during lowest part of his alcoholism. That being said, he's not really funny imo but I can see why people find him funny. He's an incredibly safe, family friendly comedian. He had some good SNL stuff at one point.

He sucked off Lorne Michaels during his tenure at SNL. Word passed, and he kept blowing all those NBC execs, and all of a sudden, BOOM, he got his own late show.

Dude is devoid of charisma, giggles like a teenager at everything (which is the reason he screwed almost all of his SNL sketches) and is cringy as fuck, with his overacting during interviews and skits. Everytime a celebrity says something that's supposed to be funny, he laughs like a maniac, and that usually comes off as not being spontaneous.

This is exactly what I meant when I said he was phony.
Everything is "amazing" or "so funny" and "hilarious" during interviews

Who would be better hosting the Tonight Show anyway? A suck up who does a good job building relationships with people who can tell some safe jokes is all that show really needs to be.

At least he gets the odd game developer on the show. That's appreciated.

He's arguably a better interviewer than Colbert. Colbert is funnier but he is probably the worst late night interviewer in the game because he's the exact opposite of this.

Tbf I don't think the late night show formula is for me. That being said, I'll catch reruns of Carson on my antenna tv station and I actually enjoy those.

I mean he's better for our age group but I dunno if the Tonight Show audience would have ever appreciated him. Conan was never that popular with old people.

I think so? Someone is watching the show surely lol. Don't think it's people here. Late night talk shows in general are kinda just for old people these days. The days of the Tonight Show being some big deal is long gone.

I don't get it. I've never found him funny and I lost interest in snl when he was one of the people who took over weekend update. The show just lost me there. I haven't even watched his late night show but I would imagine I wouldn't enjoy it, or at least his presence on it.
