I'm sure E.L. Doctorow's Ragtime is still allowed. Never mind the whole
-use of the n word and other racial violence towards the only good (and incidentally, black) main character
-the grandpa (and/ or father?) detailing their raping of inuit women
-the grandpa's white supremacist teetering views about minorities and women
-the grandson taking those lessons to heart
And all the other violence :l

If you want Rand, just read Anthem. It's an interesting scifi-ish novella that's actually pretty good, and still gets all the core Randian points across. Maybe read Fountainhead if you want a "modern" realistic novel.

Atlas Shrugged is just long and boring and ranty, and the only reason to ever have a copy is to impress dittohead who have never read it anyway. I read the damn thing in the mid 90s (because Anthem was pretty good), and can never bring myself to get much past the train bits ever again.

Still recommend Anthem.

it's just that Shrugged is such a thoroughly unpleasant read, chock full of obnoxious self-important "heroes" and moronic limp-wristed "villains" with a truly reprehensible moral

It's not even just that it's boring and ranty. It's some of the most intellectually dishonest shit that I've ever read. Every single character that isn't Galt, Dagny, Francisco, or Rearden is some sort of caricature.

The Mat-Su school district in Alaska is one of the biggest examples of Salt Right Republican trash being elected to the board by the wingnuts of Palinville (Wasilla)

Such gems like Ollie Larson sit on the board - a guy that shot someone in the back while they ran away trespassing on his property years ago. The same man who voted to ban overwatch from Mat-Su E sports for having "gun violence"
