Specific instructions are always better than a vague "just do x"

Unless you mean they need steo by step instructions

*Boss gives no indication of doing xyz*

Boss: Why the fuck didn't you do xyz? It's common fucking sense.

Maybe just be clear motherfucker.

That's only worth doing if there is a possibility of a raise/promotion/ladder climbing.

U can do extra work for nothing but I aint doin that

Are we talking people who don't understand instructions, people who are afraid to act without specific approval for fear of being reprimanded, or people who intentionally do as little as possible and will take any lack of clarity as an excuse to do nothing and then claim instructions were unclear?

this one. But we work in a super accepting and friendly environment. She is so fixated on rules and order though that she wont do things unless specifically told to do that task

Let's not throw TC under the bus before we know the details.

I've been a foreman a long time and I already get a feel for what he's getting at. You get it worst from temps. For your average person, you can tell them "So and so is here in a pickup, would you go and offload him? Just stack the ply in the yard, somewhere out of the way" and he'll stack them neat, usually against a fence so they're not blocking heavy equipment.

Then you put Johnny Temp on it, same instructions, and he's got years of experience and this clown will just make a pile right next to the damned truck, in the middle of the yard. You can't fix a guy like that. If you don't stand there and watch or help him do it the right way, it just won't be. You come back to a huge mess and Johnny Temp is standing around with his finger up his nose acting like he thought he was doing the right thing. He's either a giant idiot or he's a lazy idiot and either way, that's a raw deal. His ass has just got to go.

I've booted more temps in one year than I have regulars in 20.

When I communicate with some colleagues telling them I need something done, I detail everything out exactly, line by line. Some people think its rude but some people like the clear direction.

Fair, but at the same time, if their prior boss was a shitty micromanager, it almost becomes survival instinct it's hard to unlearn.

There are two kinds of manager. The ones that waste half their day trying to make sure everyone is constantly "staying busy", and the ones that don't mind if the employees fuck off a little as long as work is getting done.

The first kind is a damned fool.

this kind of attitude makes jobs fucking shitty

Most employers will boot your ass the second they can if it's in their best interest.

Fuck losers that do extra work for free. Makes employers expect people to do that.
