Well? Hmm?

Just curious.

On a side note, it irritates me how people brushing their teeth in movies have no toothpaste on their brush.

I fill a small cup that I keep in my medicine cabinet. Put toothpaste on my brush. Dip brush in water. Brush teeth. Use cup to rinse mouth and sink.

Actually, I didn't brush my teeth for like, half a year one time. If you have healthy genetics you don't need to slather your teeth and hair in all that stuff every day. I'm not saying it isn't good for you -- just kinda unnecessary. Some people are predisposed to unhealthy teeth and gums and some aren't. Once had a hygienist tell me that she had a patient with perfect teeth who never brushed, and a patient with horrible teeth who always brushed.

Cool stuff.

not sure it's genetics, it depends which strains of bacteria have made their way into your mouth. read an article once saying that we could theoretically immunize ourselves to tooth decay by immunizing ourselves to specific kinds of bacteria (though I think they were probably exaggerating how possible it was to actually immunize people to it.)

so if you happen not to have encountered particular oral-decay bacteria (yet) in your life-time, maybe you won't have much tooth-decay. I don't think that's a good reason not to brush and especially floss though.

I brush once every day (sometimes twice) and floss when I need to, like after eating beef jerky or something. That alone seems to be enough to keep my teeth healthy for now.

I don't know how old you are, but note that there can be a youthfulness fallacy of sorts there, too. it doesn't make any sense to declare that your teeth are resistant to tooth-decay when you're still in your 20s. the question is, what will your teeth look like by age 30-40 and later? tooth-decay causes permanent damage, and damage that makes your teeth more susceptible to tooth decay. you won't feel the effects in the short-term, you will feel the effects in the mid-to-long term.
