Children are a Curates egg - good in parts. They are a mixed blessing, and I fear for my childrens teachers when they are old enough to attend school, if they are not intellectually up to the task of teaching genii in the making.

As someone who spends his morning with many of these kids...it's because their kids are, in fact, terrible, and they only notice that when they're the ones who have to deal with it.

lmao not really. most teachers just become one just because they just decided to study whatever for the sake of going to college, because its what you were supposed to do when you leave HS. then they didnt have many if any other options when they were coming towards the end of their plain old english/science/language/math degree. so they just continue to stay in the school system since its all theyve known.

Normally such parents would ship them off to summer camp when they are on summer vacation from school to avoid having them at home, but now they cant.

For real though, why are elementary/school teachers held to such high esteem? a lot of those blue collar jobs like Electricians, mechanics, roadworkers, plumbers, construction workers etc are more valuable professions.

Heck at times like these it just shows how truck drivers/logistic people, and grocery store workers are real MVPs who keep the world going which we take for granted and who dont ever get recognition and get held on a pedestal like teachers.

As someone who spent time teaching high school, teachers are VASTLY underpaid and undervalued. They put you in charge of 6 classes of 30 students every day, multiple different prep classes too. You either end up taking work home with you or staying very late (otherwise, you end up sucking at your job). The amount of planning, grading, and parent communication is overwhelming. And some will say "Oh but you get summers off". Yeah well most teachers spend a chunk of that time prepping for the new year, and if you're a coach, you're still coaching.

Compare all the work teachers do to that of an administrator. Admin can make 100+k, and they don't do SHIT except attend meetings, work with Budget stuff, and attempt to tell teachers how to do their jobs. They wear suits and get to play the big boys, while we do all the hard work.

As someone who dabbled in teaching for a number of years, this is unfortunately true. While my passion for teaching was there, and my subject matter knowledge impeccable, I was not a good teacher. Upon changing career paths, I was instantly making an extra 10,000 a year. Four years later and a number of promotions later it was closer to 40,000 a year extra.

While my current occupation is stressful on occasion, I have never been as exhausted mentally and physically at the end of the day as I was at the end of a school day.

Or this is a very stressful time, so theyre venting. I personally think its shitty, but unless you post some examples we cant really go any further. I havent seen anybody complaining. Are they people you know? Randoms on the Internet? Hypothetical people that exist in youre head? Youve gotta give us something to work with.

i feel like all parents would be happier if they weren't parents. they just can't admit it because they'd be social outcassts if they did

Well, since were both operating off of anecdotal evidence, perhaps the best compromise would be that both types of people exist, and you and I interact with different kinds of people.
