People probably are saying that because the general distrust of the government. And they're not getting a clear answer as to why this is so bad when numbers don't show it to be and when things like TB which are airborne spreaders aren't seen like this? I mean I don't get it myself.

youre completely incorrect, and because of the lackadaisical attitude you and the majority of the country have we will have an Italy styled lockdown on our hands.

I think people who have this attitude either feel like we live in a world where this shouldnt be possible because of modern medicine, or they just are deluding themselves into denying the severity of the actual disease because they really dont want it to be the case.

I mean.. define bad? If you suddenly introduced influenza to the world you'd get the same response?

So yeah, it's bad that a lot of people are going to get sick and the economy and peoples livelihood will suffer along with it. People will die because sometimes people die from illness.

I'm not sure exactly what people are downplaying when they downplay. Like are they harping about the symptoms?

To be fair, it can come from a distrust of the media.

Other than that.. hasn't hit a good amount of the population yet, and they are thinking of themselves and not the elderly.

To that extent I will agree. It's in the middle of "Its no big deal" and "We're all doomed", but the scary thing is that there is a lot of space in between those two. Saying either is abhorrent, but in this kind of situation give me the people who overreact over the ones who underreact.

I just keep hearing that there are worse things out there to kill you and that the few victims are just the old and already compromised. Oh, and that the regular flu is far deadlier yet we can't shut down society every time a few people get a little sick.

If Las Vegas shut down every single resort on the strip then COVID-19 is bad.

There's no way the would lose out on that revenue unless there was a shitstorm brewing.

This is going to cost America dearly in lost revenue and probably send our economy spiraling into a deep dark recession.

People are overreacting. The CDC is not. To the best of my knowledge, the CDC has not issued any suggestions that you should go out and completely buy the stock of toilet paper in every store in the nation.

All the lockdowns and quarantines aren't in place to protect millennials or even Generation X.

It is meant to protect the high risk group known as baby boomers. They also happen to be the ones actually in charge and can make such orders.

I'm surprised this isn't connecting for more people when they ask why we are overreacting to something with such a low mortality rate.

Sounds like you didn't even read what he said. The economic impact is bigger than the virus itself. How is that not a fact? Also, you do realize that Italy has the kind of lockdown that they do, because they didn't catch it early, right? American has shut down all schools, movies, bars, restaurants, etc, something Italy failed to do before it was too late. But sure, America is having a relaxed attitude.
