It is meaningless because the mortality rate is the way you should compare this kind of thing. COVID-19 has a much higher mortality rate than the flu does.

I really don't understand why people even try to make a point that the flu kills more people. It blatantly ignores the fact that tens of millions of people get the flu every year while we just recently crossed 100,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

That's why mortality rate is the important factor to compare when talking about the risk of having a particular virus.

Even if we're just talking about this year, it's still stupid. The flu doesn't just phase in and out of of existence. It's already worldwide, sprinkled about in every city/town all over the globe and always ready to pick up the pace when konditions are right. There are still entire kountries Covid hasn't even touched yet. Not to mention people with the flu are not usually quarantined.

The flu's already infected the whole world, kills like half a million people a year, but there's nothing can be done about it now. The whole panic over corona is that it would be great if we're able to avoid having a second flu type thing around. Think it might be beyond containment now, but still worth trying.

corona virus has many possibilities of asymptomatic situations and many where people arent confirmed cases and are self quarantining themselves.

if we actually had plenty of test kits Id bet the cases would increase but the mortality rate would inversely decrease because its not very fatal to anyone under 60 or without underlying conditions.

thats why people are saying this is basically the flu. It still needs to be take seriously because of how contagious it is.

but to say its deadlier than the flu is premature.

The same is true for the flu, though. The number of confirmed cases of the flu is simply that - confirmed cases. Most people, especially in the US, don't go to the doctor when they get the flu,so the flu numbers are under represented just the same.

I just want to put out here that we have a flu vaccine. We don't really know how deadly it would be in today's world without a vaccine but chances are both the infections and deaths from flu would be far higher than they are now if it weren't for the vaccine.

COVID-19 is something that we've just been exposed to for the first time.

Thats 4 people. There were more gunshot deaths in Chicago this past weekend. There were probably dozens more overdoses, car crashes, and medical problems that caused deaths.

Thats 233,333 a month. The USA is up to 60 deaths after one month of coronavirus, which is 0.000257 percent of the deaths registered a month.

The important part is the more cases we find, The more the mortality rate drops. You see we dont know how many people have it / had it. This thing had been circulating the planet since at least October. It didnt start when China first fessed up to it. Our virologists didnt even detect it cause it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Soth Korea has done WIDE SPREAD TESTING. Their death rate has dropped to 0.6%.

Italy is only testing the sickest. So higher rate. Since rate is a percentage.
