I'm glad they don't have the first 2, the last thing we need is a butchered version of it. But yeah getting rid of Shang was a dumb move. I get they split him up to 2 characters, but there was nothing wrong with him from the start that couldn't translate to a live action.

Lol they're not fighting for democracy. The protesters are far right extremists that have embraced the support of fascist groups. China isn't great but they're in the right when it comes to Hong Kong.

I hope it does well.

I'm a fan of movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Lady Snowblood. Besides, this is female action lead under the Disney banner and that's something they've been mostly lacking in.

The animated movie was an Eddie Murphy vehicle. Do you even remember Mulan's personality from the movie? Can you quote one line from her? It's Mulan's time. Don't try and stand in her way just because you don't get a CGI lizard to provide comedic quips or because you don't like something the lead actress said.

It looks really damn good. I like that it's not just another shot for shot remake.

But yeah they really should've left some damn songs in.

When I first saw the trailer, up until they showed the title at the end, I thought it was a Hero sequel or something along those lines. So I might see it one day on video. I fucking hate Disney cartoon movies with songs.

I think that's important, but in this case it's less an issue of art and the artist than keeping profit from a corporation that enables China to behave like it does. She'll still have Mulan on her resume, but Disney should probably take a hit.

When you come from a nation like China, you can't always speak your mind about things.

If you and everyone you care about is safely aware from there, you can call the government a bunch of fucking assholes. If you denounce the police, they might find some law you or a loved one have broken somewhere along the lines or just make up their minds that you've broken it. Oh, but that's too far fetched -- even for the country which introduced the social credit system and made Winnie the Pooh illegal.

And since China is the primary audience for all blockbusters, it doesn't behoove any actor to speak out against them. There's no reason to expect her to be a martyr. Why should she commit career suicide or see her cousin arrested for unpaid parking tickets and contraband the day after she says "Fuck the Police"?

While I think what the actress said was terrible, I can't judge as harshly considering she most likely has family in mainland China. It's one thing to risk yourself, quite another to put loved ones in danger.
