Let's say one that is at least 15 years old and you one you cannot shoot your way through.

It seems like tolerance for them has gone down a lot these days.

I've beat Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 for MSX. Well, they were the PS2 ports but still

Also played the NES game on Rom back before internet banned them

2005 era stealth games were fine. You had stuff like Snake Eater and Splinter Cell with good stealth. Go back further and it might be hard though.

Yes, I still replay splinter cell 1 every so often

Yeah I'm playing through that now and I thought I would have a much harder time considering how people online can sometimes carry on about it.

But the hardest part is the Xbox version only has checkpoints.

Although I did know how the body detection system works so maybe that's a factor.

May just be the specific ones I've played but I find the genre ages really well as long as it's not a cheap tacked on mechanic to a game of a different genre.

Most of the MG games and Rescue: The Embassy Mission are great games even today. And Bonanza Bros wasn't terrible.

Most of the other old school stealth I can think of sucks but they're mostly tacked on to a game of a different genre, like in Spyro 2, Rise to Honor and Enter the Matrix.

In fact, I think the only bad stealth game I've ever played is Mission Impossible: Operation Surma.

I should really get around to Splinter Cell one of these days...

No, probably not. I'm really bad at stealth as a genre.
I can do Payday 2 stealth but that's pretty recent and also that game is completely ridiculous.

I've been watching a lot of Metal Gear Solid lately though and am feeling compelled to try and play through them again now that I know some tricks beyond hide -> tranq -> run past. I do think I could handle MGSV and Peace Walker, it's the old top down ones I'm more interested in.

Splinter Cell 1 is still amazing. MGS 1 also holds pretty well.

And Tenchu, man, Tenchu is also still awesome.

I sometimes see people say it hasn't aged well and I find that crazy.

It's funny because the stuff that has aged Splinter Cell (can't raise an alarm in some missions without a mission failure) is what makes it feel so unique these days.

Infiltrating an embassy so you can record a conversation between two suspicious individuals is something you don't really see these days. It's the odd forced gunfight that has aged worse.

Sure it is. They just let you guns ablaze your way there and don't evacuate the place for some reason.
