I've toyed in my head the idea of giving it modified soccer rules. Make the game two halves that go 30 or 40 minutes each and don't stop the clock unless there is a score or a timeout taken. The only kink I have yet to workout is teams using penalties to run off clock since penalties take longer to litigate in American football.
