So we got my fiancs parents a $200 gift card to a really nice steak house, for Christmas

We wanted them to have a nice night out, without worrying about anything.

My fiancs birthday was last night, and her parents invited us to that steak house with them, and asked if wed be offended by them using the gift card.

The bill was $280, with $200 already being taken care of. Then they asked us to cover the tip, should have been $60 but we gave $80.

So with a combined total of $360, we paid $280 of her birthday dinner.

thats a little weird, right??

To clarify, I just dont think you should invite your daughter out to dinner for her birthday, and make her cover a majority of the bill.

Like if they invited us to Steak n Shake, or Applebees, and covered it, that would have definitely looked better IMO

My main point is, if they are wanted to take her out to a sit down restaurant, pick one within your budget.

like even a place thats $10 a person would have been totally fine.

Yeah that was shitty. I wouldnt let it get to me too much but I wouldnt get them anything like that again.

I know not to ever get gift cards or cash to my mom because she will just spend it on others and not herself, for example. So I get her something I know she needs and will use. Like creams she is obsessed with but cant afford.

that's a tough scene and yeah your fiance's parents are definitely cheap fucks...and extremely tacky.

good luck marrying into that family. don't expect much from their side at the wedding.

This. And if it was just her and her parents I could see being upset at having to cover the tip, but since you were there as well, I don't see a problem with them asking you to chip in for your fiance's dinner.

what kind of parents make their daughter and future son-in-law cover the tip? That's the worst part of all of this. The least they could have done is cover the tip.
