Darth Sidious is back and we're only given ambiguous proposals as to how he's back. Dark Sith magic, cloning, etc. But no discernible reason; in fact his line from Episode III ("The Dark Side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural") feels like it was included not so much as an homage but as a way to get critically-minded fans to just accept his return.

Fine. He's back. Now that Rey has killed him, how do we know he can't just come back again?

I mean, if the "Sith magic" that was used to resurrect him is only a one-off deal and can never be done again, that was never explicitly stated in the film.

So there's no reason to assume he's actually definitively dead.

Problem.

Actually, after that conversation in Revenge of the Sith, you kinda have to look at Return of the Jedi a different way.

They straight up dump him into the title crawl acting like he never died...as if nobody would have any questions.

His death before seemed pretty definitive, so if they are willing to just control-z that then I don't see what stops them from undoing this death as well...

I mean, after Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith saying whatever about Plagueis and the Dark Side being a path to many abilities that some consider unnatural, etc etc etc...it makes you view the OT in a new light. Because although that movie came out in 2004 - it happened chronologically before Return of the Jedi - so you gotta be like "Oh yeah, well he did mention he could potentially cheat death in that movie that came out 20 years after he died already"

When in the history of fuck has ANY villain ever died from being thrown down a shaft?

I mean, you fellas can see how thats nowhere near as "definitive" as being goddamn disintegrated, right?

Yeah, the disintegration thing made it pretty final, IMHO.

But, having said that, fuck TROS.

I think the ancient dagger with blades that outline the modern day wreckage of the Death Star is a bigger plot hole.

If its ancient that is....I need to rewatch it.

He fell down a shaft, causing a minor reactor explosion in the process, and subsequently the entire Death Star was blown to smithereens.

Is that not disintegration?

I don't think the dagger was meant to be "ancient", just old...and, of course, the Death Star had been destroyed for 30 years.

EVERYTHING IS FINE FRIENDS

Weren't there ancient Sith runes carved into it?

And that little part that came out to point to where the MacGuffin is, Jesus Christ. Quality writing, right there.

Oh yes, a group of sorcerers who can see the future designing a dagger that will only be helpful in the future. How fucking stupid

I know, right? Like theyd know the exact angle Rey would have to be standing in order for the dagger to line up perfectly with the Death Star wreckage. And theyd know the artifact would still be in the same exact place on the Death Star after it was completely obliterated.

Very fucking stupid indeed.

Most Disney villains die by falling off cliffs.
