My brain is telling me Spanish but I'm more interested in Italian. I live in the southwest and work in the tourism industry.

Italian used to be relatively prominent in the US and then died out. I think it's a shame

Spanish is more useful than Italian, but study whatever make you happy.

Also, Italian is ever so slighlty harder than Spanish.

Learn Spanish. From people I know who can do it, going from Spanish to Italian isn't too difficult. Portuguese also.

If you want to learn Latin for some reason Italian is the closest to it.

Then you can learn how do things like say "Pretentious Latin choir" in Latin and make a JRPG final boss music.

When I was a young teen I wanted to learn Italian. Probably due to first getting into mob movies at that age and I hope I don't offend any Italians saying that. I actually bought a little tourist translator book thing. Pretty much forgot what little I learned.

Familiarize your self with Italian. Though Italian is still very much a language of regions.
But the basic outlines are the same.

There is nothing wrong with becoming familiar with Italian, French, Spanish or German.

The Slovic and Nordic languages are great too. However, they have less bearing in English.

If you want to go hard chore, go Latin or Greek.

Etymology is very enlightening.
