With the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the Star Wars era that began with 2015s The Force Awakens finally comes to a close, but according to Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, the franchise still has a busy future ahead of it.

Speaking on The Star Wars Show, the executive reflected on all that Lucasfilm has delivered since it was bought by Disney back in 2012, while suggesting that the Mouse House is only just getting started:

Its been an incredibly fulfilling and a very exciting journey, but actually, I think, in many respects were just getting started. Weve accomplished a lot obviously with the saga films, the Skywalker Saga and the opening of Galaxys Edge here in California and in Florida, and of course, a few other films along the way and TV series. But it feels like were just starting to mine the full potential of what Star Wars is and what Star Wars can be.

Iger went on to say that the team has a long-term vision for the Star Wars brand that could see the franchise expanding even further:

And I think it took some time as Lucasfilm became part of Disney and we started thinking long term not just about fulfilling the interest of the fans short-term, but long-term what could happen and I get a sense that the future is far more vast than we expected it to be, and so theres just a lot that lies ahead.

They have to say that though. I don't think it's possible to deny that the franchise has been damaged at this point. That being said, it can probably be fixed. Still, the latest trilogy certainly has been a let down to fans it seems and I have heard that Galaxy's Edge isn't doing well.

Yeah it can absolutely be fixed, it just requires the right people making decisions. Look at the glowing response to The Mandalorian

Personally hoping for some media focused on Kenobi between Revenge and Hope. But Id be down for exploring outside the trilogies too.

if they continue ahead in time, they should jump ahead a large time period. to a point where even Rey's era is remembered just in legend. maybe jump a thousand or more years ahead so we remove ourselves from all the existing stuff and people in the galaxy

People are always going to watch star wars though.

I think they need to get someone to do a whole saga though with an actual plan for the movies like they did for marvel.

Just a coherent big picture outlook for the saga. Not the "this is important", "no its not that important" that they had switching directors for this last movies
