Im broke and need a controller

have an 8bitdo thing that I love for platformers and such but doesnt hack it in souls games or w/e

using dualshock with pc is a bitch

do not own an xbox but am looking at controllers, is the super expensive one worth it?

I hate the Xbox controllers for pc. You hook a thingy up to the usb and your controller wirelessly connects to it. But that usb receiver thingy breaks quickly which makes your controller unusable. I suggest you get one that you can connect directly to the pc and not a wireless one.

Dualshock 4 is the best there is, and it's natively supported by Steam. You can also use an 8bitdo dongle to make it wireless, though Steam will think it's an Xbox controller.

if you use it through steam it works perfectly. not a lot of games will show the correct buttons, but you get used to it.

Sad because its the best one.

although I still have a ds3 it connects to a cheap $10 bt dongle and solves all my controller pc needs.

also, different prompts never bothered me.

I've had a wireless Xbox adapter for 3 or 4 years now. Like most things, the complaints about it are a lot more of a vocal minority thing than an actual fundamental problem in the product.

Xbox controllers are unquestionably the best for controller PC gaming. The Elite 2 is worth it, but if you don't want to spend that kind of money you can get a standard XB1 controller. The Elite 2 and newer standard XB1 controllers also support Bluetooth so they don't strictly even need the proprietary wireless adapter.

Never had any problems connecting DS4 to PC over Bluetooth.

Xbox button prompts don't bother me in the slightest.

Xbox controllers are literally your only option if you can't deal with that, dude (aside from the games with native DS4 support, anyway).

One thing that might help is that it's the same as Nintendo except A is swapped with B and X is swapped with Y.

You can connect Xbox One controllers directly to PC with a micro USB cable. So wired controllers aren't really needed.

i have read the micro usb on xb1 std controllers wears out super easily but that is seeming like my best bet for a new in box pad

Not if you have games on Origin or Epic.

Had to set up my steam to open up the other launchers and had to use the steam big play or whatever too. It was a hassle

That's so stupid.

You can literally download SDL for free, even if you just init the controller part, and it will recognize your controller, map the buttons for you and even tell you what the name is.

Literally all you have to do at that point is build a 2D dictionary of a couple of the most popular controllers, the button type and an image. If it's not recognized, just default it to Xbox style.

It's like half a manday of labor, lol.

To use PS4 controllers on Non-Steam games you can also download DS4Windows. They released 2.0 a few days ago.

Honestly it's probably most cost efficient to go for Logitech.
