Americans generally make fun of American beer and always go for the craft or international brands. But in other countries, do they do the same (i.e. is American beer considered good), or is American beer just bad in general?

"American beer" in this context means the major brands like Miller and Budweiser, and not their craft brands.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

One of my Aussie friends in college used to comment on the wide availabilty of cheap beer in America. I don't know what the situation is like in Australia but he was "impressed" by the variety of cheap beers.

Also, he told me that most Australians consider Fosters "shite". There are much better beers available there.

IIRC an American company bought the right to use the name, but not the formula. German Budweiser isn't the same as American Budweiser.

My understanding is that the mainstream American brands are considered crap. Not sure if there's much of a market for our craft.

When I lived in Japan in the 1990's some Japanese people, in Tokyo at least, used to drink Budweiser as some kind of statement. Not sure what point they were trying to make but it was definitely a thing.

I always drink the local beer when abroad. It's cheaper and usually fresher tasting.

I regularly drink a lot of American beers, I think Yuengling is probably among the best of the cheapest and main stream options. Sam Adams is excellent also.

There are so many small independent breweries that make excellent beer, I could sit here and list off 50 easily.
