I feel like if all the commoners know you as a luxury watch brand, there's probably something more elite out there.

People will argue about which brand it is, but it feels like it can't be Rolex.

Rolex is solid, but Phillipe, Bulgari, and Cartier are the tippy-top for me.

However, none of them are in my imagined price range.

I'd never pay more than 500 bucks for a watch.

Anything more than that and you're just paying for whatever overpriced gemstones or "gold" that they are using

yeah it does seem like a great number of people who don't really know much about watches think like that rolex is the holy grail or something. It might easily be the most famous watch brand in the world

They're mainstream luxury. It's the ultimate entry to show elite status that "you've made it".

Watches like Richard Mille watches are the ultra elitest symbol that would take 30 Rolexes to equal the value of one.

With that said, Rolexes are well made and built to last. If you want to save money, Tudor watches are basically Rolexes just without the $5k crown stamp logo.

Good comment but I would just argue, durablitity is almost never an important factor in luxury craft or fashion. You can buy a $50 quartz watch about as durable (and as good at keeping the time) as any Rolex.

Similarly, a uniqlo sweater is as durable or more than any high fashion piece.

I've had a Citizen eco drive as my first watch, and it broke down within 4 or so years. It was a good watch and lasted, but even with a battery replacement, it couldn't hold its charge for whatever reason.

But I don't doubt about the quality of Uniqlo. I'd go shopping there more if there was one near me and not 3 hours away.
