I'm just gonna keep my S8 till it no longer functions

I love my S8 but I'm NOT buying such a large phone especially if it still has a hole punch in it. Samsung should call me back when they make something closer to five inches without an ugly camera hovering literally inside the screen.

Why wouldn't you? Wireless headphones have shitty audio quality compared to wired ones. Then again, people run around with Beats and think because other people can hear what they're listening to means the headphones are good.

I'm going to be completely honest about the headphone jack situation.

For years I defended its corner. It felt like paying more for less when apple removed it.

Then I got my sony wh1000xm3 headphones and I can't even remember why I felt so strongly about it. These things have the best sound and the bluetooth virtually never drops out. With a decent phone the bluetooth does not significantly drain battery.

The reasons for keeping a headphone jack seem to be disappearing, because I can't remember needing one.

Defending the lack of a headphone jack, not defending the actual concept of a headphone jack.

That's not always true. We live in a world with codecs like Aptx, Aptx-HD, AAC, LDAC. Good bluetooth will beat a shitty jack in sound.

I went through two 7 hour flights listening to my bluetooth headphones and had 60% battery left. I get a week or two out of normal use. It takes about 30 minutes to fully charge with USB-C. Total non issue.

Kind of like myself, I suspect much of the resistance to wireless headphones is stubbornness over actual reasons. I mean a lot of the people who argue about sound quality are listening to spotify music on $20 earplugs, lol

Ok here's a very good point. When you have a shitty laptop with a shitty integrated soundcard, your sound quality on a jack will be much worse than bluetooth (which can be improved with software updates). I mean on my crappy laptop I can literally hear artifacts and background noise from the in-built microphone when trying to listen to things.

That's not even to mention problems with the jack itself.

Are you arguing "good" wireless over a shitty pair of wired? Obviously those are better but I'm not talking about $20 headphones or those garbage wired headphones that came with the phone. I stopped using those kinds of headphones years ago once I started getting into audio.

I'm arguing that a jack isn't automatically better than bluetooth just because it's wired, because a phone with a bad sound card or shitty jack may not produce better sound even if you have a quality pair of wired headphones. Bluetooth technology has advanced sufficiently and doesn't rely on the limitations of hardware.

When using good wireless headphones with advanced bluetooth, I think the quality of sound is better than most people are used to and really only becomes a matter of contention for proper audiophiles. In which case, listening to music while travelling (and from a phone, probably off a streaming service) is probably not really when you need the best quality of sound.

There is a dongle for headphones so I'm gonna go with that option.

I'm not walking around with anything connected to my skull wirelessly.

There are 3 things I need a good phone to have.

1. A perfect 16:9 rectangle for a screen with nothing intruding on it.

2. A headphone jack.

3. A tactile home button.

My S7 still works fine, but I dread the day I need to upgrade.

Some of you guys will be holding onto your devices forever then. The headphone jack is slowly becoming extinct and it ain't coming back. Need to get with the times.

As for me, I'm in no particular hurry to upgrade my S10+. Call me when the S13 drops.

The tactile home button doesn't matter that much tbh, my S8+ works perfectly well and it has the home button under the screen.

The S10 still has a 3.5 jack. I'll probably pick that one up, throw some SD memory in it and keep it until it falls apart. I'm never buying airpods if I can help it.

Well, my music collection is currently sitting at 69.7GB. Add that, plus apps and their updates, videos & photos that will undoubtedly require more space as we hit higher quality technology in phones...as much as I can expand to. I've already upgraded to a 512gb card for my S8+.
