I know it was just cosmetic but its still surgery and youre still dealing with anesthesia. It should be treated and from here on tried just like it were any other medical procedure. It said she suffered two cardiac arrests during the surgery? Something doesnt sound right ...

Oh yeah for sure and at 18 I doubt she ever expressed that thought to anyone but her family will probably end up making that decision for her in the coming months/years.

There's hypocrisy when you also get stories of people who engage in excessive cosmetic surgery to the point where they go from normal, or in some instances cute, to "unsightly", and the general CE response being practically the same.

It sounds like it was a routine administration that had a very rare occurrence. I'm struggling to put full blame on the medical staff here, as unfortunate as this is. Sometimes there are unpredictable, unheard of complications that no one anticipates because it just doesn't happen. I'd wait on more information, because I don't know what to think.

It would be different if they ODed her or something along those lines, and neglected to give the proper dose. It sounds like they did the same that they do to thousands of other patients, and she just had a crazy reaction to it as a result. I'm not a medical professional so i'm not going to act like I know what i'm talking about.

It's sad regardless.

You don't get general anesthesia at the dentist. Even for oral surgeries they give locals and amnestics.

But it could happen with s lot of operations you get under the care of a surgeon, which most people will experience at least once in a lifetime.

Honestly though, I went to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed in 1999 and they put me under anesthesia and knocked me out for a few hours. Things might be different now but from experience, yes I have been put under at the dentist.

On one hand, it's a really shitty thing to happen, especially to such a young woman.

On the other hand, it's a cautionary tale about unnessecary vanity surgeries.

Thornton is just north of where I live in CO, so it's wild that this could happen in my state. Could happen anywhere really.

Yeah. Most people don't think about it at that age. I'd been terrified by the movie Johnny Got His Gun when I was 12 and made sure my parents knew my wishes in a similar situation as a result, but a lot of people try holding on. I hope they make a humane choice and let her go.

I dunno the time frame of the cardiac arrest but the most important thing is recognizing it and starting compressions right away. Thats what makes your heart pump and keeps circulation going to your vital organs. So if theres a delay in that even for a small period of time, it will lead to permanent brain damage. Secondly the compressions MUST be high quality. My guess is, at this outpatient day-surgery center, they very rarely see cardiac arrests, if ever, so I don't know if they'd even be good at ACLS/BLS. And Third, immediately after the first resuscitation, they should've aborted the procedure and immediately transferred her to a hospital that can manage post-cardiac arrest. All 3 of these things are absolute basic common sense for any doctor.

Something else that irritates me is how they basically told the family that everythings fine and that she'll be fine. Cardiac arrest is the ultimate 'won't be fine'.

She went into cardiac arrest... And they didn't call off the surgery and get her to a hospital right away?

Prison for both of them tbh

This is an unfortunate but incredibly rare thing to happen during routine cosmetic surgery. There are thousands of cosmetic surgeries that require anesthesia day after day after day that people undergo with no problems.

So really I think it's a bit silly to question why people decide to have cosmetic surgery. Odds are that you're probably more likely to die or be permanently damaged on the drive down to the clinic.

Yea to the people trying to defend the doctors.....

Sorry, these people fucked up. They waited 5 hours before calling 911. She might have been saved if she had gotten proper attention sooner

She was left unattended for 15 minutes.

The nurse wouldn't say the practice's name on the 911 call. When asked directly, he responded "Um....oh......gosh....ummmm"

And he was a defendant in a case where ANOTHER woman was put under for breast surgery and ended up brain dead.
