It doesn't bother me. The length of some commutes is more troublesome to me.

I mean I drove one in my small town several years back. It just felt stupid to me when I could just be driving without all that.

The 10 speed automatic they put in Ford Mustangs is more efficient than any of those plebs are going to be with their manual transmissions.

I mean dual and single clutch transmissions are more efficient than actually taking your hand off the steering wheel to change gears, unless you have superhuman reflexes then that's a fact. But you also don't have the engagement in autos that you do with manuals, it takes away from the fun of it and makes the experience feel more robotic. Drove an R35 GTR and while it's a marvel of engineering I could feel myself getting bored with it after a while. That's why I'm glad Porsche decided to keep the manual option for the GT lineup of their 911 and Cayman.

If it's any consolidation, I have no idea on how to drive automatic. I tried it but it just doesn't click for me.

I'm missing a chunk of my hip and have damage to my left leg that limits its range of dexterous mobility, so I literally cant drive stick anymore.

Had to sell my Camaro Z28 :(

I think that most newer automatics accelerate faster and are more fuel efficient now than manuals, so that argument is wrong now. It did use to be true but automatic transmissions have improved and now are very good in when to shift and they can shift faster than manual. One thing I do like about newer manual cars is some cars now how a feature where the car doesn't go backwards when on a hill (brake hold). I hated that when I drove manual in really hilly areas as well as really bad stop and go traffic. I do enjoy manuals more in sporty cars in low traffic environments but not for everyday commuting.

Haven't owned an automatic since the '90s. Won't likely again if I have my preference.

It's true that eventually it's as easy and instinctive as walking, but it's still more physical movement and hassle, and on my particular commute a royal pain in the ass.
My first car was a manual, and I wouldn't mind having one again, but my commute is a mostly interstate straight shot with maybe three traffic lights on each end. I can see how commuting in the city with a manual would be annoying.

Um how could you have no idea? Its literally just moving the gear stick forward or backwards then using the accelerator peddle. @evilpresident
I'm weird like that. It just doesn't feel right for me.

Yeah, I know. Just doesn't click for me for some reason.

Maybe take a few lessons in a manual? Better than any YouTube video

Eh I've owned manuals my entire life just because I find them more fun for me because I'm a driving enthusiast but I have nothing against autos or DCTs. They make more sense for people that live in congested cities or just don't want to be bothered with shifting their own gears.

I can't imagine how annoyed I would be in city traffic with constant stops and shifting.
It's not an issue in normal traffic, where you're just stopping for lights/stop signs and whatnot. But when you start getting jams and major slowdowns with unpredictable shifts between stops, low speeds, and high speeds, that's when it's a pain.

I know how to drive manual and I generally enjoy them, but my current car is automatic and I don't foresee myself getting another manual unless I move away from cities or I reach a life situation where it makes sense for me to have two+ vehicles.

Manual transmissions went out of date maybe 10 years ago. You know they're dead when supercars drop them.

Sounds like your friends need to get with the times.

It's just the weird usual machismo nonsense, which is quite funny because every woman in the UK drives a manual too

Wait, so youre saying that, by your mates perspectives, the women in your country are more masculine than you?

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't think this conflict is ever going to be resolved, barring moving to a less macho place or finding new people to talk to.

Can you even do wheel spin take offs in automatic?

Cause in manual, you rev to 4 thousand rpm and then you just snap release the clutch.

Electric cars taking over should make this whole argument moot. Though I have seen idiotic proposals to add manual transmission to electric vehicles.
