If we wanted to terraform Mars, for the sake of argument, what would be the neccessary scientific steps?

1) Get core active and spinning
2) Create atmosphere
3) Add sufficient water
4) Remove poisons

Yeah...getting the core active might be unfeasible. I'm just guessing.

Mars is a bit small, but adding some mass from nearby moons could help heat up the core so it can hold in atmosphere.

It is theoretically feasible but honestly by the same principles it should be way, way easier to just engineer stop/reverse Earth's climate change, even if that's a gargantuan feat by itself.

There are concepts of placing mirrors in orbit around Mars to reflect sunlight directly toward the polar areas, so that the ice will melt and form bodies of water, which in turn is part of how a habitable atmosphere is to be created.

Depends heavily on the planet/moon being terraformed. But the goal is typically to initiate a greenhouse effect and it would probably take a few thousand years to complete.

Redirect asteroids and meteors into the planet. keep bombarding it until its awake.

From the little bit I understand about Mars, since it's core has cooled and isn't active like Earth's is, it doesn't produce a strong enough magnetic field around the planet to protect it's atmosphere from getting blown off into space. We would either have to "restart" the core, or create an artificial magnetic field, both of which would be incredibly huge feats of engineering in comparison to everything else that would have to be done to enable Mars to support life.
