When I was going to the library regularly (mid to late 2000s), I had mostly checked out books by William Gibson and Michael Crichton. I bought Burning Chrome by Gibson 10 years ago, but got too busy to read it.

Dick is amazing, not everything he does is science fiction but he's a genius. Neil Stephenson is amazing. Adam Roberts is really interesting and has had some great sci fi novels, led by Stone. Heinlein is fucked up but has several novels worth reading, led by The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress. Asimov is remembered fondly for good reason. Same with Larry Niven. My favorite author, Anthony Burgess, is much more of a satire author but wrote an incredible sci fi novel called The Wanting Seed.

Dune is worth reading, although it's pretty damned weird for how popular it is. Vonnegut's science fiction is brilliant, but everything the man ever did is brilliant.

I haven't read too much sci-fi but some of the stuff that I have read and enjoyed was The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut, The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury and Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke.
