First episode started bad, but I had warmed up to it by the end.

Theyre kind of butchering the chronology of the books, but that doesnt have to be a bad thing. Im interested to see what kind of direction they go. They better not omit Brokilon and the dryads.

Based only on what ive seen in the first episode, no. In fact ive disliked It more because its so unlike the books.

BUT the first episode got better towards the end. I will answer your question after I finish the first season sometime before noon (Im a night shift guy so I wont be sleeping before then) or maybe sooner.

Either way, please DO give the audiobooks a try. Even if you dont think youre an audiobook person. Peter Kennys voice for Geralt >>>> all others. Hes also a hell of a narrator.

One interesting thing ive noticed is even though the music is by different person than the composer for the games, I definitely recognize these tunes from the TW3. Pretty sure I heard the somber string section of the Kaer Morhen theme in the trailer. Cant wait to hear it in the show (hopefully).

Maybe. The entire time I watched the first episode, I was thinking is this something id Recommend to my friends who havent read the books? And the answer was no, because it felt like bad cinematography and pacing. But then it got better towards the end. Game of Thrones took a few episodes to warm up, so im giving it the benefit of the doubt and ill let you know as I watch more episodes.

Didn't really watch them and when I did I didn't pay a lot of attention.

Hmmm. I'm noticing this follows the same trend as the books, in that the parts that follow Geralt are actually less interesting than the rest of the characters. I've always said that Ciri is the actual protagonist of the books, not Geralt.

2nd episode is much greater than the first, but still lacking. WHERE ARE THE FUCKING DRYADS?!?!? On to Episode 3!

Edit: I'm kind of glad dryads might be omitted, for a very selfish reason. I'm writing a novel about dryads, and I don't want people to think it's because I ripped the idea from The Witcher. Although my inspiration did come from the books. As far as I know, there is no better lore of dryads than that from The Witcher books.

Oh and even though the chronology is a little out of whack, I'm liking the relationship between Geralt and Dandelion here. Y'know how Geralt is famous in the books... like everywhere he goes, people seem to have heard of him. Before watching the show, I never considered that perhaps it's because he's best friends with the world's greatest bard. They're putting emphasis on that here.

Fucking holiday times. For some reason I was thinking the 20th was Sunday... Guess I'll watch an episode or 2 today after work.

@Shablagoo 4 episodes in, Im not a fan of all of it, but its okay. Id say its about on par with your average MCU movie. Check it out if youre interested, but dont blame me if you feel like you wasted your time. I think if this season does well, the next seasons can be better if theyre given a bigger budget.

every witcher novel except for the two short story collections are sleep-inducing so hopefully they fix that once they get past where sword of destiny would have ended

Aaaactually, it's supposed to auburn, not red. But then Fringilla Vigo isn't supposed to be black either; they wanted diversity over exact descriptions, however.

I'm watching episode 3 right now, and I think it's been good so far, but there are some parts that are hard to watch as someone who's read the books, that a newcomer shouldn't have the same issues with. How Dandelion got his lute, for example, was completely omitted except for a throw away line. Lots of little big things like that.

I wonder what the purpose was behind changing Dandelions name to Jaskier.

Edit: never mind. I just looked it up and it turns out that was his name in the original Polish version. It translates to Buttercup. I guess the English translator figured that name sounded too feminine.

@Shablagoo episode 5 was fucking good. If this continues, then I highly recommend the show.

Nice, Ill have to stick with it! I liked the start of the first episode but ended up losing interest halfway through. Cavills Geralt impression is really good though, at least based on the limited amount of time Ive played the game (Witcher 3).

First 4 episodes are enjoyable, but nothing spectacular. Huge leap in quality on the 5th episode. I havent watched the 6th yet, but Im sure its great because its based on my favorite story from the books. According to another user on here, 7 and 8 are also great. So stick with it if youre not over impressed with the first 4.

The way the Doppler exposes himself to Ciri in ep. 6 doesnt really make sense. He is supposed to be an exact copy, right down to his thoughts, memories and even mannerisms. He even stated so on the show right after he did the thing. So slipping up the way he did was kind of dumb.

i get why they're fast forwarding the ciri shit but launching right into her and nilfgaard etc. is why people are comparing this show to game of thrones negatively when the first two witcher books where never like that. its also really heavily detracting from the first episode which on its own was one of the best witcher short stories and is now a sideplot while we fart around in cintra watching armor guys stab each other

OK I've watched all 8 episodes now.

Very good overall, does start a bit rocky but gets better for sure. However, I think it stands up much better as a stand alone thing. As someone who's read the books, I found it very frustrating how much the show deviated from them (and straight up left a load of stuff out).

Ciri's story, in particular, was particularly irksome.

~ Ciri isn't supposed to make her way to Brokilon while fleeing Cintra, she does it fleeing from a suitor. It's there that Geralt chances upon her, NOT later on after saving the merchant from the ghouls.
~ The drinking of the water happens after the Dryads have claimed Ciri and Geralt argues that she's his by destiny, and the water not turning her into a Dryad is pretty much the only reason Geralt wins that argument
~ Mousesack isn't killed by a bloody Doppler, he bumps into Geralt and Ciri on the edge of Brokilon
~ Etc.

~ Needs more Rience

Ugh.

Ah yeah sorry. Not all of it, but some of it. It's mostly about my frustration with how they adapted the Ciri storyline.

Also, just to correct myself earlier, Triss wasn't auburn but chestnut. But, depending on what you take as source material, could indeed be fairly called a red head

Books describe her hair as chestnut, which is a brown and red coloring. In The Lady of the Lake it's further noted as "ginger" and while this usually pertains to redheads, in some cases it also means a brown red color.
