i had a GameStop gift card but I did need anything from GameStop so I went in and grabbed an iTunes card and attempted to pay for it with the gift card.

GameStop employee proceeds to look at me like Im some kind of mad man. Im like What? Can I not do this? She says IDK, Ive never seen anyone try it before. Lets see what happens.

Long story short, you can get rid of your useless gift cards that youll probably receive for Christmas by by other cards.

Definitely. Walmart doesn't allow it.

Most larger stores stopped allowing this a couple years ago when every old timer was going in to buy gift cards for scammers.

nope. you can use a walmart gift card to buy any product at walmart. i think you're confusing regular gift cards with those visa prepaid cards. there are restrictions on those.

They used to, but now I'm getting restrictions for buying like restaurant gift cards or iTunes with Walmart gift cards. This is recent.

A gift card is just cash put on a card. the company already got the money for it. There are places where if you have a $50 gift card from them, you can split it up into two separate $25 gift cards from the same store...they don't care. the money is already theirs. It becomes an issue of potential fraud when someone is buying mass amounts of gift cards at high prices with prepaid cards or tries using multiple credit cards. I'd often have people come in, try to buy $300 in gift cards, and when one card wouldn't work they have like 5 or 6 more to try. They somehow clone the cards so their name is on it but the strip is a different card...don't know how. That probably happens at Wal Mart a lot which is why they limit it. People will do that, give the cards to someone else who will then come in and buy a bunch of other, lesser denominations of gift cards. makes it harder for them to cancel the transaction if fraud is found out or reported.

i still think you are mistaken, either that or it is a regional- or per store-basis, because it's not like that at either of my local walmarts and there's nothing in their gift card policy or terms and conditions about not being able to buy gift cards with a walmart gift card:

Seems like it might be regional or store based then.

From my experience, you can buy giftcards for other stores with a giftcard, but not giftcards for the same store. This was the case the last time I used a target giftcard
